There is only now

"Everyone procrastinates sometimes, but 20 percent of people chronically avoid difficult tasks and deliberately look for distractions—which, unfortunately, are increasingly available. Procrastination in large part reflects our perennial struggle with self-control as well as our inability to accurately predict how we'll feel tomorrow, or the next day.

Procrastinators may say they perform better under pressure, but more often than not that's their way of justifying putting things off.
The bright side? It's possible to overcome procrastination—with effort". ~ Psychology Today

Many of us have most likely had moments when we don't feel like we want to spend time focusing on something that needs to be done in order to bring it to fruition. It could be as simple as doing our laundry and saying "oh i'll do it tomorrow". Then you wake up and realize the shirt you wanted to wear is dirty and you are rushing around to wash it and iron it.
You created unnecessary stress in your day .

Others procrastinate and put off until the very last minute to accomplish big tasks. Were you or are you one of those people who wait to finish an assignment for school or work until the night before? "It's ok", you say to yourself, because you always get a good grade or accomplishment the task well.

Are you a procrastinator? Here are some questions to ask yourself from Mindtools.com
  • Do you fill your day with low priority tasks on your To Do List
  • Spending time reading emails several times without responding or deciding what to do with them
  • Sitting down to start a high priority task and almost immediately finding yourself distracted or getting a cup of coffee
  • Leaving an important item on your to do list even though you know it needs to get done
  • Waiting for the right mood or right time to accomplish the important tasks
  • Do you get bored easily? Are you disorganized?
  • Do you feel overwhelmed by tasks?

Here are some useful indicators that will help you know when you’re procrastinating:
  • Filling your day with low priority tasks from your To Do List.
  • Reading e-mails several times without starting work on them or deciding what you’re going to do with them.
  • Sitting down to start a high-priority task, and almost immediately going off to make a cup of coffee.
  • Leaving an item on your To Do list for a long time, even though you know it's important.
  • Regularly saying "Yes" to unimportant tasks that others ask you to do, and filling your time with these instead of getting on with the important tasks already on your list.
  • Waiting for the “right mood” or the “right time” to tackle the important task at hand.

When all else fails get someone to hold you accountable. A friend or a colleague.
Ask them to check in with you.
Set your goals.  Can't decide?  Fear of doing something wrong or saying the wrong thing?
Make an action plan. How will you accomplish your tasks?
Break down the task. Start with achieving smaller parts of it in order to bring it to fruition.
Reward yourself for accomplishing your task.

Change your perspective and see the outcome.
See yourself already in the place of your goal!
Get excited!
You CAN do it!

I will tell you a secret. I have been and sometimes can still be a procrastinator. I have to be mindful and cautious of my actions. I find when I make smaller To Do Lists I can accomplish them easily. I hold myself accountable for my actions. I don't blame others or situations. When larger projects come into my reality to accomplish I might still find myself delaying until the last moment. I know in my mind I should not do this. I find some other 'sparkle" aka thing to do that seems like more fun. Some people say it is A.D.D.

Recently, I have become part of a group to manifest our dream. I am accountable to them and myself. I must show up. I have homework to do. Ugh homework :(
There is the trigger! I never enjoyed homework. I wanted to play.
So how can I look at this differently with new eyes? Well, if I manifest my dream I can play more often!

There are always ways for us to find help. ASK for it! Don't be afraid. Once you recognize you have a pattern that is sabotaging your dreams you can then work on it. You can accomplish it. It will become easier. Identifying what you do will change the way you do things!

Now, GO FOR IT!

I'm excited for you! What is your dream? Share it with us! How will you get there?
